Major delays to the @Caltrain system tonight after a train struck a vehicle in San Mateo at 6:20pm. @cocktailgeek alerted us to the situation and has been updating us from the beginning. He says the driver of the vehicle is ok, but there was debris all over both northbound and southbound tracks. At around 7:20pm, @cocktailgeek tells us that the train has finally been released.
Caltrain spokesperson Tasha Bartholomew says that the driver of the vehicle was able to escape before impact and the car is in a nearby ditch. Bartholomew also said Caltrain service will be delayed up to an hour.

@murphstahoe made a wonderful point on Twitter tonight: "Caltrain screwup the day after samtrans reduces KX frequency of course."
Yesterday Samtrans made some major cuts to six express lines that serve San Francisco, and some changes to a few others.
